Small Farm School is an educational event that celebrates the innovation and diversity happening on small farms in the region, as well as the burgeoning interest in local sustainably produced food. The 8th annual Small Farm School took place in July at Clackamas Community College. Over 230 people participated in the one-day event with 23 field and classroom workshops including: vegetable and dairy production, land care, equipment and tractor training, and beginning farmer business and marketing. Workshops included a mix of hands-on, outdoor, and classroom learning. Small class sizes allowed for active participation.

Lunchtime is a festive atmosphere with opportunities to visit exhibitors, network with other farmers, and have one-on-one consultations in the Ask the Expert area. Llamas, sheep, and goats were featured guests for the on-farm veterinary care class, demonstrating injections and health checks. Weighing, mixing, and watering happened as farmers put their recipes into action during the compost workshop.

To encourage aspiring farmers to attend, scholarships are provided for Veteran farmers, farmers of color, and Rogue Farm Corps Apprentices.

Small Farm School 2020 will take place on June 27:
